How to request a document from another library?

-

Cannot find the document you are looking for in our library? Request it from another library.

Use the Swisscovery Courier service if:

  • the desired document is not a scan of an article or book chapter. Therefore, see the Interlibrary Loan service below.
  • the holding library is part of the Swisscovery network and offers this service

Exception:

Documents located in Geneva libraries (UNIGE and the City of Geneva) are not available through the Swisscovery Courier service. Users must visit the holding library to borrow them directly.

  1. On the Swisscovery catalogue, sign in using your SWITCH edu-ID account.

  2. Use the “Swisscovery” or “Swisscovery plus” search scope to find your desired document.

  3. Once you have located it, click to select and view its details.

  4. Under “Further request options”, make sure the pick-up location is “Institut de hautes études internationales et du développement”. Then, click “Request”,

  5. If you have additional information to provide, you can enter it on the next page. Otherwise, click “Send request".

  6. You will receive an email notification when the requested document becomes available at the Loan Desk. The Swisscovery Courier delivery time is 3 working days.

Fees:

If you are a member of the Geneva Graduate Institute, no fees will apply.
But if you request an article or book chapter without using the Interlibrary Loan service, you will have to pay the fees yourself.
If you are not a member
fees
will apply.
Your reserved document will be held for 10 days.
After this period, the reservation will expire and a CHF 10 fee will be charged.

Use the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service if:

  • the holding library is not part of the Swisscovery network
  • the holding library does not offer the Swisscovery Courier service
  • you are requesting a scan of an article or book chapter

  1. On the Swisscovery catalogue, sign in using your SWITCH edu-ID account.

  2. Open the Action button and select “Interlibrary Loan”.

  3. Fill in the form with the details of the document you wish to request. Once completed, click “Send request”.

  4. You will receive an email notification when the requested document becomes available at the Loan Desk. ILL delivery times may vary significantly, from a few days to several weeks.

Fees:

If you are a member of the Geneva Graduate Institute, no fees will apply.
If you are not a member
fees will apply.

Your reserved document will be held for 10 days.
After this period, the reservation will expire and a CHF 10 fee will be charged.

Some recently published titles might be valuable additions to our collections. Instead of submitting an interlibrary loan request, you may suggest a purchase.
